Worcester State University’s first Wellness Expo promoting cancer awareness and overall wellness will be held on Thursday, February 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Wellness Center’s Competition Gym. More than 30 exhibitors will be at the event providing information and resources to attendees. All university community members are welcome to attend.

The event is being sponsored by the Rosen Cancer Awareness Fund, which was created by alumni Gregg Rosen ’86 and Pamela Rosen ’87. “With the support of the Rosen Cancer Awareness Fund, our goal is to pull in local businesses, organizations, and Worcester State departments that can cover the wide world of wellness, giving the students access and awareness on their journey for personal wellness,” said Assistant Director of the Wellness Center / Fitness Center Manager, Dean Bowen.

Exhibitors include the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Society, the Greater Worcester Land Trust, Impact 508 Nutrition, F45 Training, New England Organ Donor, QCC Dental Hygiene Clinic, and some Worcester State partners like the Student Nurses Association; Counseling Center; Speech, Language, and Hearing Center; Chartwells; and the LGBTQIA+ Resource Center.

Organizers say they hope this first event will draw a lot of students. Students can sometimes feel invincible when it comes to their health and believe that they will not become seriously ill. Yet, health conditions like cancer can impact anyone anytime and early detection is key, said Bowen. The expo will have information for students about cancer awareness and early detection.

Planning for the event has been happening since late November to build relationships and partnerships for a comprehensive event.

“I hope the expo will grow over time, and I would like it to eventually expand and show all aspects of wellness. I also want students to be involved in both their health and wellness, and for them to attend the expo,” said Bowen.
