Worcester State University’s Visual and Performing Arts Department invites the community to do the Time Warp again with The Rocky Horror Show, the iconic musical by Richard O’Brien, running April 24-26 at 7:30 p.m. and concluding with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, April 27. Performances will take place in the Fuller Theater on the second floor of the Shaughnessy Administration Building at 486 Chandler Street in Worcester.

A celebration of self-expression and campy horror, The Rocky Horror Show follows sweethearts Brad and Janet as they stumble upon the mysterious mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter after a flat tire leaves them stranded in a storm. What begins as a search for help becomes an unforgettable night full of eccentric characters, rock-n-roll numbers, and thrilling surprises—including Frank’s newest creation: a muscle-bound man named Rocky.

Directed by Worcester State senior Aiden Bourdeau, the show brings a message of bold authenticity and queer joy to the stage. “This is the time to make noise and be visible,” says Bourdeau. “Right now in our country, our [queer] community is under attack, and we need to make sure that we are seen and heard.”

“People need to know we aren’t going anywhere.” adds Bourdeau, who called Rocky Horror an “iconic piece of media” in his personal growth. Bourdeau hopes audiences not only have fun but feel a sense of belonging: “I really hope people just have a fun time—but I also hope they leave feeling like they can be themselves in their day-to-day lives.”

The timelessness of The Rocky Horror Show lies in its power to make people feel seen. “It’s for the freaks and people who feel left out or forgotten,” Bourdeau adds, “but the quote ‘Don’t dream it, be it’ speaks to everyone, and I think that’s why it has stuck around for so long.”

Tickets are $7 for students, $10 for seniors, and $15 for general admission. To purchase tickets online for the show, visit worcester.edu/VPABoxOffice. To purchase tickets in person, visit the Worcester State Student Center Information Desk or contact the VPA Box Office at 508-929- 8843 or VPABoxOffice@worcester.edu to make a reservation. Worcester State Theatre productions feature diverse styles that range from comedy to drama to tragedy, providing students with a variety of performance experience.

The Visual and Performing Arts Department’s bachelor of arts in theatre program immerses students in a 39-credit program of study that includes an extensive variety of theatre courses, performances, and other hands-on, lab- based experiences with productions such as The Rocky Horror Show.
