RegisteredNursing.org has ranked Worcester State University’s Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program one of the top programs in the state for 2025. The recognition highlights institutions’ dedication to academic excellence and support for nursing students.
Rankings are based on a comprehensive methodology that evaluates factors such as program quality, affordability, and graduate success rates. “Worcester State University offers a comprehensive Master of Science in Nursing program through its esteemed nursing department, known for its dedication to fostering compassionate and competent nurses through evidence-based practice. With a strong emphasis on hands-on experience and interprofessional collaboration, students are equipped with the skills and knowledge to excel in the ever-evolving healthcare landscape,” according to the RegisteredNursing.org website.
“We are thrilled to receive this recognition,” said Associate Dean of the Dr. Lillian R. Goodman Department of Nursing Catherine Thomas. “The success of our program is thanks to the hard work of a whole team of people who work collaboratively often outside of the traditional workday to be the most available and go above and beyond to make our students’ experience the best it can be.” That team includes the Worcester State Graduate School; Dean of the School of Science, Technology, and Health Dr. Linda Larrivee; and current and past program coordinators, faculty, and staff members.
Thomas says there are advantages to the online format, which was launched in fall 2021. It allows students from far away to enroll—the program currently has students from seven other states in addition to Massachusetts. “The interaction of students from different states, with different professional experience, expands their learning and broadens their worldview,” Thomas said. “We’re very proud of that.”
In 2023, the Nursing Department received full, 10-year reaccreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a national accreditation agency, CCNE ensures the quality and integrity of nursing programs. Worcester State met all four of CCNE’s program quality standards: for mission and governance, institutional commitment and resources, curriculum and teaching-learning practices, and assessment and achievement of program outcomes.
This is not the first time Worcester State’s Dr. Lillian R. Goodman Department of Nursing has been recognized by the California-based nursing advocacy organization. RegisteredNursing.org has ranked Worcester State’s undergraduate nursing program the Number 1 program in the state for the past three years.
