Bisk Sits on Panel Discussing the New Common Core Standards

Richard Bisk (Mathematics) participated in a discussion panel at Worcester Technical High School on December 8. The event also featured speakers from Worcester Public schools as well as Mitchell Chester, the state’s commissioner of Elementary and Secondary Education.

“Digging into the Common Core: Education Standards and Testing in Massachusetts” was the topic. Participants discussed the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, curricula, and the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) and Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) exams.

Bisk and Mike Winders (Mathematics) also published an article in the New England Journal of Higher Education titled “Math Task Force’s Bad Calculation.”
