Sibyl Brownlee (Student Affairs) was feted during the April Board of Trustees meeting for her accomplishments as vice president for Student Affairs. She retired last semester, after working for Worcester State University for 12 years.

During that time, the campus transformed from a college into a university and from an overwhelmingly commuter-based institution to a significantly residential one. Under her leadership, two new residence halls have been constructed—Waslyean and Sheehan—and Dowden Hall was renovated.

According to President Barry M. Maloney, Brownlee was and remains devoted to students. “Perhaps her most significant contribution to Worcester State is her personal engagement with students and her deeply held belief that students must be put first in the educational mission of a university,” he said. “Dr. Brownlee championed the creation of our Student Emergency Fund and has personally worked to support hundreds of students in all aspects of their personal and academic growth.”

She continues to work part time for the university and currently leads the Parking Committee.
