Chalupka Speaks Climate Change’s Impact on Health at HEFN Annual Meeting

Stephanie Chalupka (Nursing) was invited to deliver a plenary address at the annual meeting of the Health and Environmental Funders Network held in Detroit, Michigan.

Her address, entitled “High Impact Voices: Climate Change in Rural and Urban Communities,” described the major health threats related to heat waves and extreme water events. She also reviewed the increased disease incidence related to temperature and precipitation changes as well as building resilient communities through innovation in energy, health-care preparedness, housing, green space, active transit, stormwater management, and health-centered economic development.

The Health and Environmental Funders Network is a network of grantmakers investing at the intersections of health and the environment. It is comprised of 55 foundations with national and global reach including the Kresge Foundation, Heinz Endowment, Rockefeller Family Fund, and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. It works to mobilize philanthropy around solutions for environmental health and justice.
