Congrats Day and Campus Tours Go Virtual

Each spring, upwards of 1,000 accepted and prospective students and their families come to Worcester State University to meet counselors and faculty, visit the president, and perhaps take another tour of campus before deciding to commit to Worcester State.

Typically, campus is bustling with prospective students walking around campus, taking student-led tours, and attending information sessions. Accepted students enjoy Congratulations Day, a highly anticipated event that gives students the opportunity to explore their future campus and get a taste of real college life.

“Students tell us time and time again that their campus visit was a major factor in their decision to attend Worcester State,” says Dean of Enrollment and Director of Admissions Joseph DiCarlo.

So when college campuses around the country began closing amid the spread of COVID-19, DiCarlo knew that Congratulations Day would need to be held online to ensure that accepted students still had the opportunity to get a feel for campus life.

About 200 students participated in the first two virtual Congrats Day events that were held on April 4 and April 14. The final event will take place on Thursday, April 23, and will include remarks by university leadership and presentations by Academic Affairs, Housing, Academic Success, Student Accessibility Services, Financial Aid, as well as an overview of the enrollment process. A current student will also speak on their experience and share why they chose Worcester State. The full schedule of virtual events can be found here.

In addition to Congrats Day, the Admissions Office is also providing online information sessions for both prospective and accepted students to replace tours while campus remains closed. A schedule of virtual events can be found here.

“Although these virtual events will not completely replicate the lasting first-impression many students experience,” says DiCarlo, “we are excited to expand our reach to more students by bringing Worcester State to them in the comfort of their homes.”
