Student art exhibitions now on view at Worcester State’s Mary Cosgrove Dolphin Gallery

Two new student art exhibitions are now on display at the Mary Cosgrove Dolphin Gallery at Worcester State University.

The Spring 2025 Student Thesis Art Exhibition and Currents 25 each run through May 17 at the gallery. The opening reception took place on April 17. The thesis exhibition features five student artists, each of whom was mentored by art professor Stacey Parker over the past semester.

“The thesis show is focused on our students who have completed their coursework in the art major,” Parker said in a statement about the exhibition. “The thesis gives them an opportunity to really focus on their own work, starting from idea through to completion of work with guidance from faculty–rather than learning a skill and doing a project based on that skill, like they would do in a studio class.”

That is why the exhibition is so varied in style, format, and materials, she said. For Parker, it is exciting to see how the thesis students are developing their own artistic practice and voice. In addition to serving as the mentor and faculty advisor for this year’s art thesis students, Parker is the director of the Mary Cosgrove Dolphin Gallery.

Currents 25 features work from students currently enrolled in Worcester State University art classes. “The students in our current classes are showing a high level of artistic drive and curiosity,” said Parker, speaking in her capacity as both the museum director and a member of the Worcester State art faculty. “We have a couple of new classes along with our regular offerings that the students have really enjoyed. Their talent and passion for their work shows in the high level of work they have created over the past few semesters.”

In addition to these two exhibitions, you can find student artwork in gallery exhibitions throughout the year at the Mary Cosgrove Dolphin Gallery, as a testament to the drive, curiosity, and creativity of Worcester State art students. The gallery offers five main exhibits interspersed with shorter-term events throughout the year. The gallery invites artists in all stages of their careers along with faculty and students to exhibit works that explore the established, edgy, and innovative ideas in the artistic world. The gallery’s mission is to contribute to the cultural offerings of the region by exhibiting work of vitality and interest in the contemporary art world.

The gallery is open Wednesdays through Fridays from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturdays from 1-5 p.m.
