Thirty one student teams from across the university will compete next week in Worcester State’s annual Chandler’s Challenge to raise money for athletics, student clubs and community projects.
The two-day bracket-style crowdfunding tournament begins April 4 and will close at midnight. on April 5. Chandler’s Challenge offers staff, faculty, alumni, family and friends a unique opportunity to give directly to student-led organizations to support their projects, programs and operations. This year, all 15 Worcester State athletic teams are competing in the Athletic Bracket, along with 5 newcomers in the Campus Bracket: the Office of Multicultural Affairs, It’s On Us, SAVE Task Force, Finish Line Scholarship and the WSU Counseling Center.
Up for grabs are a host of team prizes supported by University Advancement and Athletics:
- First Place – $1,000
- Second Place – $500
- Power Hours (4 total) – $250 each
- Most Alumni Donors – $500
- Most Dollars Raised – $500

- Active Minds: Events, group meetings and fun activities
- Baseball: Updating equipment and facilities
- Cheerleading: Nationals trip in 2022
- Chorale: Concert trip in Europe
- Counseling Center: To support the center and MK, the therapeutic assistance dog
- Cross Country: Meet entry fees, gear, strength and conditioning programs
- Dance Team: Competition fees, uniforms and travel
- Enactus: Create community development projects that put people’s own ingenuity and talents at the center of improving their livelihoods
- Equestrian: Host a show at home, support next year’s team
- Field Hockey: Ireland trip in 2023
- Finish Line Scholarship: Provide financial support to students close to graduating who have unforseen expenses
- Football: Recruiting, updating practice bags and sleds
- Golf: Equipment updates and support for practice rounds at key events
- It’s On Us: Event promotion
- Lacrosse: New gear and team events
- Men’s Basketball: Gear, travel, and team building activities
- Men’s Hockey: Sticks, equipment, game-day food and facility maintenance
- Men’s Soccer: Gear, equipment and sport technology
- Office of Multicultural Affairs: Books, supplies, winter gear, education co-curricular activities
- Pre Health Club: CPR/AED classes, guest speakers, enhancing applications to grad school
- PSA: Create ‘Lancer for a Day’ program for local middle schoolers and provide backpacks and school supplies for students attending the event
- SAVE Task Force: Training materials and Tshirts
- Softball: New equipment and gear, Spring Break trip
- Student Events Committee: Bring a concert to campus
- Student Nurses Association: Uniforms, stethoscopes, books, supplies, and prep courses
- Thea’s Pantry: Support food pantry and grocery gift cards for students
- Track & Field: Training equipment and competition travel
- Volleyball: Team warmups, jerseys and tshirts
- Women’s Basketball: General program funding
- Women’s Ice Hockey: Equipment and experiences needed to excel
